Brian McDonnell

Brian McDonnell is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Co-ordinator in Media Studies at Massey University’s Albany Campus.
He has a PhD in Film Studies from the University of Auckland. His publications include two books, Fresh Approaches to Film (1998) and Encyclopedia of Film Noir (2007), the booklets On Reflection: New Zealand Film Reviews from North and South 1986-1993 (2007) and The Scarecrow: A Study Guide (1982) as well as several book chapters, for instance in Storia del cinema mondiale (2001), The Cinema of Australia and New Zealand (2007), and Contemporary New Zealand Cinema: From New Wave to Blockbuster (2008). Brian has served for six years on New Zealand’s censorship appeal board, the Film and Literature Board of Review.
